List your local
Posted by Justin on Feb 27, 2015 in Nelsons' Column | 0 commentsUntil now, listing your local pub as an Asset of Community Value meant only that the community had the opportunity to buy the pub if it came up for sale and if the community could raise the funds. This was of limited value: not only is there the problem of having to raise the funds, but in a small town with four pubs it would be unfair on the others to turn any one into a community pub.
Things are due to change: the Localism and Community Rights Minister, Stephen Williams has announced that, from 6 April 2015 (crucially, before the May General Election), Assets of Community Value will now need full planning permission before their use can be changed or they can be demolished.
This makes it worthwhile registering every pub you care about as an Asset of Community Value – and the details of how to do that can be found here: http://www.camra.org.uk/list-your-local-assets-of-community-value
If anyone would like to join me in applying to list the pubs in Tenterden as Assets of Community Value, please register your interest on the “List your Local” supporters’ page
